RIP Heath Ledger

  • Jan. 22nd, 2008 at 1:50 PM

Oscar nominee for "Brokeback Mountain" and 28 year old actor Heath Ledger was recently found dead in his Manhattan apartment only hours ago. He had a 2 year old daughter.

Nothing further is known about the particulars of this young actors death. There are rumors, but I don't want to blog about them until they become fact.

What a terrible, terrible tragedy. He was a wonderful actor with a huge career ahead of him.

Rest in peace, Heath.

UPDATE:

From The NY Times:

"At 3:31 p.m., a masseuse arrived at Apartment 5A in the building for an appointment with Mr. Ledger, the police said. The masseuse was let in to the home by a housekeeper, who then knocked on the door of Mr. Ledger's bedroom. When no one answered, the housekeeper and the masseuse opened the bedroom and found Mr. Ledger unconscious. They shook him, but he did not respond. They immediately called the authorities. The police said they did not suspect foul play and said they found pills near body."

I'm completely in shock. I keep waiting for somebody to say that this was just a case of mistaken identity.

RIP Heath.

It's so strange, every time some HUGE celebrity dies, I have strange dreams the night before. Last night, before I heard about Heath, I dreamt about mothers grieving over children and a stranger in my dream said it was "a cold day to die alone." In the very same dream, later on, the tone changed. I discovered that I could fly and it was so real, I was trying to tell people, "Look, see, you really CAN fly. It's real. Don't be sad. We're not just our bodies!"

It could just be a crazy dream. But, yes, every time someone huge dies, it's almost like I can sense it coming. And my dreams are strangely prophetic.

R.I.P. Heath. Too sad.

It's horrible. He wasn't just a promising young actor - I think he was one of the most gifted actors of this generation. So sad. I remember him mentioning recently in an interview how exhausted he was following filming The Dark Knight and that he had been unable to get a good night's sleep for months. Seems like a raw nerve, that guy, which was why he was so damn good.

Rest in peace. I'm really sad.

He had a 2 month old daughter.

That's the worst of this; his kid will never know her dad.

I'm stunned. 28. When I think what I hadn't done yet at 28, what I hadn't learned and felt and cherished. I'm just speechless.

You did hear that Satan *ahem* Rev. Fred Phelps is planning on taking his band of miscreants for a protest at his funeral, right? For his role "Brokeback Mountain", of course.

I'm not a violent person at all. Seriously. But if I was in the neighborhood and I had a gun...

You do not *KNOW* how angry I was when I read those words about Ph...Phelps. I can't even say his name.

I get it
I really get your anger. It makes me want to chew someone's head off as well. But see....I always think that if we try and ignore these people, their power will diminish. It took a while, but it happened to the Klan. People just stopped caring and they've now dwindled into a literally punch line.

Maybe I sound a bit like Ghandi, but these people understand nothing beyond their own hate and ignorance. It's wasted anger.

However, if they cross my path, or come to my home preaching their garbage, or attempt to stuff it in my face in any way, I'll throw used cat litter at their heads.

Re: I get it
I have this internal fight with myself. Part of me is this John Lennon-like character, a total Ghandi (as you mentioned)who thinks that violence and hatred in return is exactly the thing that will fuel evil people like Phelps (and the Klan and etc..) to keep going. I even used to be a Buddhist for a little while. If people insulted me, I didn't yell back, I simply smiled. It did work, actually.

The other part of me is filled with rage to think that his devastated family, Michelle Williams (the mother of his child), his daughter and his friends will have to listen to screams of "God Hates Fags" and "Heath is in Hell" while the funeral is going on. I hope with everything in me that doesn't happen. Because if I were any one of his family members, I'm not so sure I could control myself at that moment.

Perhaps there just needs to be an anti-Phelps task force. Just a whole bunch of drag queens, bears, and dykes on bikes showing up to every picketing and start singing Kum-ba-ya or something. Sigh.

It's the first time, I can remember in a long time screaming outloud when I read about it...My kid's both screamed too! My daughter who had just watched CANDY said "Maybe he's so "method" that he started doing heroin for that film!"

I was sad for his daughter...To not have the opportunity to know her father.

I loved watching him.I still remember his death in "Monster's Ball". What a powerful cinematic moment. And Brokeback and First Knight....and the previews of his JOKER...

He was so young! A baby. I actually saw the announcement about his death as I was watching INTERVENTION.

Still nothing about how he died.

RIP, Heath.
